Congrats – you made it through another day! Your personal assistant has deftly replaced the doom relaying rectangle in your hand with a crisp, fresh mojito. There, isn’t that better? Breathe in, engage your eyes with the horizon, breathe out, as the ice crunches and swirls in the glass. As we say around these parts (Mitte, Berlin – twinned with LA, 1976)… the smooth will endure. In a world riven by people yelling on this side or shouting on that side… we still prefer to drive down the middle of the road, the top down, the tunes cranked loud.
We believe that good music collapses time, creating a beguiling mood, sun up, tension down. And so we are excited to provide you with an entirely updated Sunset Manifesto, our Volume Two. Your expert music therapist – DJ Supermarkt – has once again assembled a much-needed collection of somehow-timeless yet nu-wave-of-smooth winners for your delectation. Our guiding logic for this second edition of contemporary midpace magic is our haus blend of adult-orientated, sunset beats, with a little we-could-all-use-a-little-joy-right-now on the side. It’s the soundtrack to the movie we’d all prefer to be seeing. A dreamlike return to the LA of pool parties, convertibles cornering, mansions in the mist.
To be honest, the casting sessions for this edition were a breeze. We’ve brought in the biggest names of today’s après-disco scene Turbotito, Eddie Chacon, PREP, Poolside, Kimchi, Woolfy, Lovetempo, Young Gun Silver Fox, Nicholas Cangiano, Moi Je, and the rest of the gang. Sure, the tasting notes say “warm California at dusk”, but these taste-makers are not only from the L.A. shores, they come from all over the world: France, Sweden, Canada, NY, Mexico, Netherlands, UK, China and almost everywhere in between. What unites them is a sound that spans everything from romantic slo/mo house to Westcoast pop, from lazy Nu-Disco, to balearic island vibes and lost, 1970s close harmony ballad-bangers – all of it guaranteed to lift moods and move feet (And yes, those are disco strings.)
Don’t come looking for ‘retro’… Rather, our merry band see the dance floor as a place where half a century of musical history bends and blends. A place where you can reach backwards and forwards in the same tune, and great ideas get another shake in the mix. Our manifesto is comprehensive, and will address your need for: dreamlike white soul, Bernard Edwards-esque bass, a certain Robbie Nevil insouciance, French disco filtering, and wait, isn’t that a former NY punk-funker covering Anita Baker?
So please enjoy Sunset Manifesto Volume Two – bringing adult-orientated, cinematic disco to a world in dire need of a good time. Cameras swoop off buildings, to catch longing looks as characters’ eyes meet. Dance floors take form in slow motion. It’s a sophisticated mood, moving to we-defy-you-not-to-dance bass lines. It’s a good time, at any time of day.
